Eligibility Requirements
To become
certified, candidates must meet all eligibility criteria at the time
they
complete the application, submit all fees, and successfully pass the
certification examination. No person shall be excluded from the
opportunity to
participate in the MSNCB certification program on the basis of race,
color,
national origin, religion, sex, age, affiliation, or disability. To be
eligible
to participate in the examination, candidates must meet the following
requirements:
- Hold a current, full, and unrestricted license as a registered nurse (RN) in the United States or its territories, or Hold a current, full, and unrestricted license as a first-level nurse in the country in which one's nursing education was completed, and meet the eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in the United States in accordance with the requirements of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).
- Have
practiced a minimum of two (2) calendar years
as a registered nurse (RN) in an adult
medical-surgical setting. - Have accrued a minimum of 2,000 hours of practice within the past three (3) years of practice in an adult medical-surgical setting.
Any
exception to these criteria will be handled on a
case by case basis according to the Appeals Policy.
Fees for Exam
$255.00 - AMSN Members;
$375.00 - Regular.
A one-time retake fee for persons who took the exam and did not pass is $180.00 for AMSN Members and $300 for Regular.
