About the Program:

• The cost of the Pre-Nursing Assessment Test (P-NAT) is $45. (This fee is non-refundable.)


• The cost for the LPN program is $2,500 (books, uniforms, assessment, state boards and graduation fees)


• All applicants must be 21+ years of age and legally able to work in the United States. Proof of American citizenship (or a green card with continuous work status), a high school diploma (or GED), as well as proof of NYC residency must be provided.


NOTE: Applicants who pass the P-NAT will be assigned a date for a subsequent Computer Based Test (CBT). Basic computer understanding is required in order to take the CBT.

Online applications are processed in the order that they are received. The exam permit and study materials are mailed within 10 business days of receipt. The exam permit contains important instructions about the exam date, time and location.

All paper applications must be post marked by Friday, January13, 2012. (Applications postmarked with a later date will not be accepted.) Incomplete paper applications will be assessed an incomplete application fee.

OVERVIEW:

The Department of Education of the City of New York requires all LPN applicants to take

C-NET’s Pre-Nursing Assessment Test (P-NAT). The exam contains 150 questions that measure the skills necessary for success in an educational program for LPNs. The exam is divided into 3 timed sections: Reading Ability, Numerical Ability and Language Ability. Applicants are given one hour to complete each of the three sections. APPLICANTS:

Applicants must be 21+ years of age by the time LPN classes start in September, 2012 and must be legally able to work in the United States. Proof of: American Citizenship (or green card with continuous work status), a high school diploma (or GED certificate) and NYC residency must be provided.

Candidates may only register for the exam and program once per year.

Valuable study materials are available to those who would like to prepare for passing the P-NAT:


1. Practice Tests:  C-NET Practice Tests each contain 150 questions that test the skills necessary to pass the P-NAT examination. The questions are written in the same format as the P-NAT and cover the same content of the examination’s 3 sections: Reading, Numerical & Language.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE EXAM DATE:


The Exam Permits that are mailed to each applicant include the exam date, time and location and describe what to bring to the exam. Applicants should allow four (4) hours from the time that they are required to report to the exam location until the time that the exam is likely to finish.


In addition to bringing the Exam Permit, applicants must also bring one of the following forms of photo identification:


1. State Driver’s License

2. State Non-Driver’s ID

3. Passport


NOTE: Only these forms of ID will be accepted. Candidates who arrive without the correct ID will not be permitted to test and will be charged a rescheduling fee to return at a later exam date.



Applicants will be provided with pencils and scrap paper. Use of rulers, calculators, notes, cell phones or other reference materials, is not permitted during the exam.



EXAM RESULTS & FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS:



Exam results are mailed both to the New York City Department of Education and to each applicant’s mailing address approximately 3 weeks after their exam date. Results can not be disclosed via phone, fax or email.


The Department of Education of the City of New York requires that applicants score at or above the 50th percentile in each of the three areas (Reading Ability, Numerical Ability and Language Ability) and on the overall test. A percentile is the comparison of your scores to the scores of the rest of the country (National Norms Group). To download a sample of an Exam Score Report, click HERE.


Applicants who have passed, will continue with the the New York City Department of Education’s application and interview process. Applicants who have not passed must wait until the following year to take the P-NAT again.
