Requirements

In order to recertify, one will need 60 points of credit as well as verification of a minimum of 2,000 hours (1 year) of addictions nursing experience as a registered nurse in a staff, administrative, teaching, consultation, private practice, counseling, or research capacity within the past four years. At least 51% of the 60 CEU’s for recertification must be directly related to Addictions Nursing.

Exam Dates & Deadlines:


The CARN-AP exam has year-round Computer-Based Testing (CBT). Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing applications.  Exam Permits reflecting a 90-day testing window will be mailed to eligible candidates.  Candidates will have 90 days to schedule and take the exam.

Re-certification:

4 years from the date of passing exam.

Recertification Application Submission:

You must not submit your application for recertification until you are within up six (6) months of your recertification deadline. Applications submitted before the six-month mark will be refunded. To avoid a lapse in certification, all applications should be submitted no less than four (4) weeks prior to the certification deadline.”

Recertification:

4 years from the date of passing exam.
