Requirements

In order to recertify, one will need 60 points of credit as well as verification of a minimum of 2,000 hours (1 year) of addictions nursing experience as a registered nurse in a staff, administrative, teaching, consultation, private practice, counseling, or research capacity within the past four years. At least 51% of the 60 CEU’s for recertification must be directly related to Addictions Nursing.

Standard Recertification Application: $275

Membership Discount: $225*

* To receive a $50 discount, applicants must attach proof of membership to ASAN, IntNSA USA, or NOVA.

$100 Retired Status Application (For Retiring candidates only)

$100 Incurred Fee for late submissions (See Recertification Timeline)

Recertification Application Submission:

Certification is good for four (4) years from the date of passing the exam. Certificants must complete and submit their recertification application before their certification cycle ends. There is a 3-month Late Period following the recertification deadline. In addition to the standard recertification fee, applications received during the Late Period will incur a $100 fee.

Recert 1

Effective November 1, 2025, CARN recertification must be completed through the online Recertification Portal. Paper applications will not be processed.
